9MUSES ART CENTER is a program of the Mental Health Association of Southeast Florida that provides adults with mental disorders an opportunity to regain mental health through the use of Fine Art, Support Groups, and Mentoring. Participants are free to choose from a broad array of visual and performing arts. Classes and personalized instruction along with individual studio time allow members to create according to his/her own personal “muse” and engage in stimulating activity without regard to labels. Support groups for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, are held weekly.
9Muses has been promoting mental health awareness throughout the community for over twenty years and functions successfully as a peer-run organization. Members are free to come and go, and participate in any class they wish or, sit and enjoy coffee and conversation with other members. Positive interaction creates a feeling of empowerment and strengthens the recovery process.
The Power of Peers (POP), is a new program which provides support to people that have been discharged from the State Hospital as they reacclimate to life in their community. It is a big success, and in a short time has helped many people reclaim their lives.

The Nine Muses - Daughters of Zeus & Mnemosyne (Memory) in Greek mythology are the inspiration of artists and scientists. Their names are: Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia and Urania .
